Prompt

Out of ideas but I had beans. And beans work well with tortilla. I didn't have any tortillas. So I asked ChatGPT:

is it easy to make homemade tortillas?

It said yes:

Yes! Homemade tortillas are pretty simple, especially if you’re making flour tortillas. They only need a few ingredients:

Flour Tortillas

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder (optional for puffiness)

  • 3 tablespoons butter or lard (melted)

  • ¾ cup warm water

Steps:

  1. Mix: Combine flour, salt, and baking powder. Add melted butter and mix. Slowly add warm water until a dough forms.

  2. Knead: Knead for 5 minutes until smooth. Let it rest for 30 minutes.

  3. Divide & Roll: Divide into balls, then roll into thin circles.

  4. Cook: Heat a pan over medium-high. Cook each tortilla for about 30 seconds per side until it puffs and gets golden spots.

Corn Tortillas

They’re also easy but require masa harina and a tortilla press (or rolling pin). Just mix masa harina with warm water and salt, form a dough, press, and cook the same way.

Do you want to try making them soon?

It didn't specify how many balls I should make so I asked:

How many balls?

It responded:

or the flour tortilla recipe above, you’ll get 8 medium tortillas or 6 larger ones.

If you want smaller taco-sized tortillas, divide into 10-12 balls instead.

I don't know how to fry so I asked:

Should the pan have oil or butter

Nope:

No oil or butter is needed! A dry pan (cast iron or nonstick) works best to get the right texture and those nice golden spots. Adding oil or butter can make the tortillas too soft or greasy. Just make sure the pan is hot before cooking!
